Live Camera | Kitano Tenmangu Shrine Grand Torii Gate & Sando, Kyoto, Japan. Dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the patron deity of scholarship and learning, Kitano Tenmangu is the head shrine of thousands of Tenmangu shrines across Japan. The stone-lantern-lined sando approach hosts lively flea markets (Tenjin-san) every 25th of the month, surrounded by 2,000 blooming plum trees in early spring and the vibrant Momiji-en maple garden in autumn. Right outside the torii gate, lines form at Awamochi-dokoro Sawaya for freshly pounded warm millet mochi dusted with kinako, historic Chogoro Mochi, and Toyouke Chaya for silky tofu hot pots.
