About this place

Kojima Shrine Tidal Sandbar & Sacred Sacred Isle, Iki Island, Nagasaki. Dubbed the "Mont Saint-Michel of Japan," mystical Kojima Shrine is nestled upon a tiny forested island in Uchimime Bay off Iki Island's eastern coast. Only during low tide does the turquoise sea recede to reveal a sacred pathway across the sandy seabed, allowing pilgrims to walk to the shrine. Revered as an island of the gods, Iki invites visitors to dine on succulent A5 Iki Wagyu beef at Unodake, sweet red sea urchin bowls (Aka-uni) at Harunoya, and local barley shochu.

✦ Must-Visit Highlights:

▸ Japan's Mont Saint-Michel Tidal Path: Walk the magical sandbar that emerges from the ocean waves only during low tide hours.

▸ Pristine Island Power Spot: Experience the spiritual calm of a sacred islet preserved in pristine natural sanctity.

▸ Luxurious Iki Beef & Red Sea Urchin: Feast on beautifully marbled grass-fed Iki Wagyu and ultra-sweet wild sea urchin bowls.
