About this place
Laomei Green Reef Coastal Landscape & Beach, Shimen District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. Renowned as one of Taiwan's most spectacular seasonal natural wonders, the Laomei Green Reef in Shimen was formed thousands of years ago by Datun volcano lava flows, sculptured by relentless wave erosion into a dramatic series of parallel coastal trenches. Every spring from March to May, flourishing green algae such as sea lettuce carpet the volcanic stone troughs, transforming the shoreline into a breathtaking emerald-green natural carpet set against crashing Pacific waves and golden sands. After taking in the photogenic seascape, visitors explore Shimen's coastal treats, savoring steaming Shimen Liu's traditional rice dumplings (Zongzi), fragrant charcoal-grilled sweet corn, and freshly caught seafood at nearby Fuji Fishing Port.
✦ Must-Visit Highlights:
▸ Seasonal Emerald Algae Wonder: Marvel at vibrant green algae blanketing volcanic rock trenches every spring.
▸ Striking Volcanic Reef Troughs & Ocean Swells: Walk along pristine sands as white surf breaks rhythmically over geometric sea grooves.
▸ Local Shimen Rice Dumplings & Fuji Port Seafood: Savor famous Liu's savory rice dumplings and ocean-fresh seafood banquets.
