Nangan Iron Fort Coastal Stronghold, Nangan Township, Lienchiang County (Matsu), Taiwan. Rising boldly out of crashing ocean waves upon an isolated reef in Ren'ai Village, Iron Fort was once an impenetrable combat outpost manned by elite Army Amphibious Reconnaissance Frogmen. Visitors walk across a concrete footbridge into hollowed underground granite tunnels containing machine gun embrasures, sniper ports, and military dog kennels. Afterward, travelers stroll into Tieban Village to feast on freshly deep-fried Apo Dibing oyster cakes (阿婆娣餅), artisanal desserts at Nanmeng Coffee, and hearty bowls of old wine pork noodles.
