About this place
Live Historic Stream | Toki no Kane Time Bell & Resona Coedo Terrace, Kawagoe, Japan. Standing proud as the undisputed symbol of Little Edo, Toki no Kane (Bell of Time) is a three-story timber bell tower rising 16 meters above the tiled eaves of Kawagoe Ichibangai. Originally constructed in the early Edo period by feudal lord Sakai Tadakatsu, the historic bell continues to chime clear resonant chimes four times daily (6:00, 12:00, 15:00, and 18:00), recognized by the government as one of the '100 Soundscapes of Japan'.
The plaza directly opposite Toki no Kane recently welcomed Resona Coedo Terrace, a revitalized 1918 Western heritage bank turned cultural culinary market. Stop by to sample craft Coedo Beer on tap alongside artisanal sweets. Around the corner, visit Uwasanotedori for Toki no Kane Sweet Potato Monaka ice cream sandwiches, or head into Kashiya Yokocho (Penny Candy Lane) to pick up giant 95-centimeter Fugashi brown-sugar wheat puff batons from Matsumoto Seika.
✦ Must-Visit Highlights:
▸ Iconic 400-Year Toki no Kane Bell Tower: Listen to the historic mechanical bronze bell chiming over old Little Edo rooftops four times a day.
