About this place

Live Mountaintop Fortress Stream | Nanao Castle Mountain Observatory & Nanao Bay Panorama, Ishikawa, Japan. Perched 170 meters above sea level on Mount Shiroyama, the Nanao Castle Ruins represent one of the five greatest mountain castles of feudal Japan, historically guarded by the Hatakeyama Clan before being conquered by Uesugi Kenshin in 1577. From the summit observatory, visitors enjoy panoramic vistas overlooking Nanao Bay, Noto Island, and the snow-capped Northern Japan Alps on clear days.

Descending the mountain leads directly to the neighboring hot spring town of Wakura Onsen along the bay. Unwind at coastal ryokan eateries with piping-hot bowls of Noto oyster kamameshi (iron-pot rice), boiled onsen eggs cooked directly in the mineral springs, and sweet Wakura red bean pastries.

✦ Must-Visit Highlights:

▸ Japan Top-Five Mountain Castle Ruins: Explore sprawling Sengoku-era stone walls and terraced baileys scattered along the ridgeline.

▸ Nanao Bay & Noto Island Panoramic Views: Gaze down at rias bay waters, Noto Island bridges, and distant snow-covered Alpine peaks.

▸ Wakura Onsen Coastal Delicacies: Enjoy steaming Noto oyster kamameshi, mineral-boiled onsen eggs, and traditional seaside ryokan sweets.
